Alumni to Receive Honors
It is a fact that on any given day, in any quadrant of the world, Beloit College alumni are making a difference. They are peace corps volunteers, mentoring at-risk boys and girls, initiating grass roots social programs in their communities, creating economic policies, teaching others what they learned while a student at Beloit College, and most importantly, they are continuing their intellectual journey. On Sept. 27, 2008, during the Alumni Assembly of Homecoming & Reunion Weekend, we will honor six such alumni. The Alumni Association is proud to announce the names of the 2008 Distinguished Service Citation Award recipients, and the Young Alumni Award Recipient.

Andrew Boryczka’98 - Young Alumni Award
Thomas J. O’Neill’83 - Distinguished Service Citation
J. Edson Way’68 - Distinguished Service Citation
Kenneth J. Beeby’58 - Distinguished Service Citation
Albert R. Hough’42 and Lois Malone Hough’42 - Distinguished Service Citation – At Large Recipients

The Chapin Scholars Initiative
In the fall of 2007, the challenge of growing support for student scholarships lead to a new opportunity: the Chapin Scholars Initiative. Chapin donors were asked to increase their gift by $1500 to provide additional funding for Chapin Scholarships. The leadership of Chapin donors is evidenced everywhere on campus, whether it be through support of the Beloit Fund, the library, athletics, or any number of other important areas. Chapin donors were encouraged to continue to support the things they value but were also asked to consider an additional $1500 to support scholarships for deserving students. The initial response to this Chapin Scholars initiative has been inspiring with 33 Chapin donors earmarking additional gifts to support the new scholarship fund. If you have questions about the Chapin Scholars Initiative, please contact Chapin Society Coordinator Jenifer Allen’05.
